It was like something out of a movie. Something you could only dream about being a part of. Something that if you didn't witness it live or on television, you might not believe what you were hearing. It was one of the, if not the most magical US Open finishes in the history of golf. The two men that made this possible were Rocco Mediate and, of course, Tiger Woods. As most will tell you and as the real unfolds, no one has given Tiger such a run as Rocco did this week. So much so, that an 18 hole playoff wasn't enough to settle the Championship, they had to play a 19th hole. And much to everyones true told fortunes, Tiger would prevail. But not without 45 year old Rocco Mediate doing everything in his power to put a stop to Tigers impeccable playoff record. We might never see a display of golf like that ever again, and I believe we were fortunate to see such a display.The sportsmanship towered above any that anyone has ever seen before, Rocco smiling the whole day through and through and applauding Tiger's second shot into the 18th green on Monday. And you could tell how much it meant to both players, win or loose, when they embraced each other with a hug after arguably the greatest day in sports history.
What has this done for Rocco Mediate, has it put him on the map? Well I think so, no one has steadied Tiger as much as Rocco did, he did everything he possibly could...there is not a player on the planet that would have beaten Rocco Mediate yesterday at Torrey Pines, the Monday after the Open, are you kidding me? The only player that even had a chance of beating Rocco was Tiger, and guess what, Tiger did.
All our golfing hats off to Rocco Mediate and Tiger Woods on a spectactular display of what only those two warriors could have produced yesterday. We may never see anything like that again.
